Community Supported Agriculture

Just got our first South Central Farmers' CSA box yesterday! CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and is an alternative way of getting produce from local farms.

A CSA marketing model (or "farmshare") helps out the farmer because you pay them directly and cut out the middlemen. You are essentially buying a "share" of the farm, and each week you receive a box of their produce and wonders. South Central Farmers' Cooperative takes orders on their website, and you can choose to order each week, for the month, or pre-pay for 6 months. Their boxes feed 3-4 people for a week and cost $20-$40 sliding scale. There are pickup locations all over Los Angeles!

Farm Box LA is a different kind of CSA, where each week a box is lovingly put together from a variety of local farms that Farm Box LA builds relationships with. And she delivers to your home! Boxes range from $50 to $100, depending on the size.

So now that I've received my first box, I'm about to go on a cooking rampage!!
